What is an extended validation (EV) SSL certificate?

    October 17, 2019

Extended Validation SSL Certificates (EV SSL) function as the highest class of SSL certificates, activating both the padlock and the legal identity field in most browsers.

Apple browsers (Mojave, iOS) no longer support the visual cue associated with EV SSL certificates, which is the legal identity appearing to the left of the web address.. Chrome will likewise discontinue on September 10, 2019. Firefox will do the same on October 22, 2019. As a result, we recommend considering an alternative type. How is the EV SSL certificate issued?

An Extended Validation (EV) SSL certificate is structurally similar to other certificates, offering the same level of security. but was designated by a CA specific policy identifier so that EV aware software can recognize a EV secured site. EV certificates are issued by Nexcess according to a specific set of identity validation criteria. Refer to How to purchase an EV standard SSL certificate for more information.

An EV SSL Certificate helps visitors complete secure transactions with confidence because your site has the Green Address Bar in web browsers. This gives your site a potential competitive advantage over sites without this feature, translating into higher conversion rates and more revenue.
